Cinema City Czech was founded in the Czech Republic in the year 1999. The first multiplex of the Cinema City chain in the Czech Republic was Cinema City Galaxie. This was only the beginning of a very extensive development of the chain of cinemas in the country.
After having 74 multiplexes in total, 5 of them in the Czech Republic, in early 2011 Cinema City acquired the Palace Cinemas multiplex network, thus expanding its network of multiplexes with an additional 8 multiplexes in the Czech Republic, 3 in Slovakia, and 7 in Hungary. Cinema City International thus acquired a total of 18 Palace Cinemas multiplexes with a total of 155 halls.
As of today, Cinema City is the largest multiplex theater operator in the Czech Republic. It operates 13 theaters with a total of 111 halls located in Prague, Brno, Liberec, Pardubice, Plzeň and Ústí nad Labem and is planing to open its next cinema in Ostrava in March this year.
